Environmental pollution from heavy metals contamination has attracted more and more attention from researchers and engineers. A novel non-sintered ceramsite was prepared using coal fly ash and cement as raw materials and FeS as the activating agent to treat the wastewaters contaminated by Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+. The effects of materials ratio and steaming time on the ceramsite intensity and specific surface area were investigated, and the effects of five major factors (solid/liquid ratio, contact time, pH value, temperature and initial concentration) on the removal efficiency of heavy metals (Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+) were examined in detail. The experimental results fitted the adsorption isotherm according to Langmuir and Freundlich models. The XRD analyses demonstrated that new crystal minerals such as Ca(OH)2, C—S—H and FeS emerged in the non-sintered ceramsite, which was helpful to remove the heavy metals. This non-sintered ceramsite presented good performance on the removal of heavy metals and good application prospect can be expected in the future. |
